Immigrant
This series is concerned with immigration today.  I teach in an urban school district, with students
who are immigrants or the children of immigrants.  The  Immigrant series uses prints on paper of
fragments of faces combined with maps. The images are pierced and knotted with threads or thin
wire.  I've also created a group of altered books on this theme that incorporate digital photographs,
and photocopied family photos. This work is about the tenuous hold immigrants often have on life
here--caught between cultures, languages
and  seen as threats, victims, or burdens to society.

One of my Immigrant pieces is part of a large show of political printmaking
curated by Josh McPhee, that is
still
traveling and has been in to several cities in the US.:Los Angeles, Washington DC, Portland , NYC and
others.
There's a catalog, "Paper Politics" that can be purchased through www.justseeds.org.  Check back
for information
on this show..
